Dental Emergencies: Managing Trauma To the Teeth


It is always good to be prepared. Getting ready for a dental emergency can be very crucial to your oral health. A broken or chipped tooth or even a broken crown or filling can give room for cavities if the condition is left untreated. This is because the damaged area is not easy to keep clean. Follow the following steps if have a dental emergency till you get to the dentist:

Chipped Tooth:

Save and rinse the pieces and your mouth using warm water. Apply gauze to the bleeding areas. Once bleeding has ceased, apply a cold compress to the area. See the dentist as soon as possible.

Dislodged Tooth:

Get to the dentist immediately if your tooth becomes dislodged. Put a cold compress on the area to minimize swelling.

Knocked-Out Tooth:

Pick it up by the crown end is possible. Carefully rinse the tooth. Avoid scrubbing it to preserve the tissue fragments. Knocked-out teeth have a high chance of being saved if only they are put back in place within an hour of the accident. Carefully try reinserting the tooth back in place. If you can not reinsert it, put it in a small container of water with a pinch of salt or milk and rush to a nearby dentist.
